WEST Coast Eagles big man Dean Cox has been ruled out for the remaining three games of the 2009 season, after failing to sufficiently recover from a groin injury.
The club released a statement on Wednesday saying Cox had consulted with medical staff and the Eagles' match committee in coming to the decision.
Cox has seen a medical specialist in Adelaide in regards to his troublesome groin and, while the club stated that his progress had been encouraging, it was considered "counter-productive" to rush the All-Australian ruckman back.
"There was just no point trying to push through for the sake of possibly one game," Cox said.
"We have taken a conservative approach with this program and that is certainly the way to go.
"Progress has been good and for the next three weeks I will just offer as much support as possible to the other players as we look towards completing a strong finish the season."
Cox last played in the round 13 clash with St Kilda.
